10 Style Lessons I’ve Learnt from Dita

22/6/2018

Superbly feminine and dashingly beautiful, the exquisite Dita Von Teese always encapsulates my heart with her iconic style.

1. Give it a waist
Wear those garments with a belt to showcase your curves.

2. Knee length, not above

Adorn your bod with modest lengths and you’ll never go out of fashion. Knee or pencil length bottoms are key.

3. Put a brooch on it

Wearing a brooch may seem like something your Nan does, but so does Dita. Glam up your outfit with a classy piece on the neckline or bust.

4. Matchy matchy

Pairing shoes to match your handbag may seem old fashioned (well it is!) but by doing so brings an outfit together.

5. Wear gloves

Set off your winter wardrobe incorporating gloves, because your hands get cold too.

6. The daytime clutch

Who said clutches were just for evenings? Add instant sophistication by bringing your handheld babies with you during your daily outings.

7. Be comfortable with your look

Change is always welcomed, but having a signature look makes you feel iconic, consistent, and comfortable in your own skin. Find what’s best for you and stick with it for that extra ease of getting ready in the morning.

8. Sunglasses to match

I only have two pairs of sunglasses (both prescription). Dita delights us with matching sunglasses to her outfits and does it really damn well. She also has her own sunglasses range!

9. Low cut

Remain classy wearing a low cut top or dress if the bottoms are below the knee. The perfect cheeky balancing act.

10. Red lipstick

Classic. There’s a red out there for everyone, finding the right tone can even make your teeth appear whiter. Wearing red every day could make you feel confident and look powerful.

I'm fortunate enough to have a loving and generous Mother, one who I can call my best friend.

We share beautiful memories together and she often takes me out to spend weekends in the City with her.

We're off again soon for an overnight stay in Sydney.

I've put together some City Weekend Outfit Inspiration for our upcoming getaway.

Home Tour Refresh

I often look at my home to find inspiration for my business and as you may already know, I am a collector of lovely things.

My decor is far from magazine-worthy, but it all reminds me of times and places; it’s all special to me.

I’m taking baby steps to introduce a rich feel into my home.
Using large mirrors, decorative lamps and a mix of looks, I am slowly tweaking my interior decor to suit my personality and style.

Keeping my husband in mind, I can’t go too girly or too extreme with a Chinoiserie look. He values the French Country style and that’s something I have chosen to keep to mix in with mine.

Here are a few little areas I’ve been refreshing.
Picture
This pink velvet side table is actually an ottoman. I simply adorned it with a placemat to make it function a side table. I am on the hunt for a round glass top to complete my look.

What’s nice about this is that if I wanted to use an ottoman, I have one. Most of the time I stretch my legs out on the couch instead.

Ottoman: Kmart
Placemat: Kmart
Lamp: A gift from my mum
Brass Candle: TK Maxx
Egg: Bed Bath & Table

Adding blooms to my home makes me feel happy. I feel like my house is clean, fresh and smelling great when I buy flowers.

This French Country style console table was purchased by my husband and I when we first bought our home.

I adorn it with my precious things and a large mirror to dress the room.

Crystal Swans: Prague Bohemia Crystal store, the other was given to me by my mother.
Vase: Thrifted
Kosta Boda Eggs: My Godmother, Ebay
Clear Dish: Zara Home
Wedgewood Dish: Thrifted
Blue LSA Vase: David Jones
Tall Crystal Dish: My Aunty
Destiny Cards: Tree of Life
Mirror: Fantastic Furniture

I installed wallpaper panels in the spaces on the inside of my planner closet doors.

This was super easy to do and adds a luxe feel to my favourite space.

Wallpaper: Inspirations Paint
Closet: IKEA
Gold Dots: Kmart

A recent purchase, but something that has been on my wishlist for 6 months. Floor length mirrors.

I struggled seeing my whole outfit with only half mirrors.

I purchased two full length mirrors to go behind my nightstands, which also elevate the eye in the room, helping to notice the tall ceiling and creating a bigger space.

Mirrors: Fantastic Furniture
Nightstands:Thrifted
Lamps: Ebay
Tallboy: IKEA
Drawer Pulls: Ebay
Round Mirror: TK Maxx
Bedding: Sheridan, Target

This is my favourite recent refresh.

I fell in love with this side table and contemplated buying it. The price point made my decision for me and I left without it the first time.

I revisited the store weeks later and to much joy I noticed it had gone on sale. Two left. One, I had to have.

I have storeage for my stock now which is a nice feeling. No more dresses hanging in the spare room.

I treat this room as my studio and I figured I would need it to be an inspiring place to work in.

Welcome to phase one of my studio update. This room will carry on a Chinoiserie theme which has got to be my favourite.

Side Table: Pillow Talk
Lamp: Thrifted
Daybed: IKEA
Duvet: Zara Home
Pillows: Kmart, Adairs.
